How... disapointing.
Quote:
Hello,
We're writing to let you know that we have discovered an error in the winners list for the Mini Mania Contest and to express our regret for any confusion that this situation may have caused. Because it has been a little confusing! What happened was, after the prizes were randomly selected, the page names within the Guild Wars miniatures prize spreadsheet were inadvertently switched. This means that we listed the winners of the Naga Raincaller as winners of The Oni and winners of TheOni as winners of the Naga Raincaller.
We've reviewed all the prize information and in fact, the keys that were distributed to the winners on each level were correct. You are indeed the winner of the miniature that was sent to you. The error that occurred was in the fact that you should have been listed in connection with that miniature at the time we put up the website page. We will be correcting the website as soon as possible, and we sincerely apologize for this miscommunication. Yours truly, The Guild Wars Team
|
So anyone who won an oni (accord to the Guild Wars website) got a naga instead, and vice versa. Which would include me, obviously. I guess I shouldn't complain, but some how a naga doesn't have the same appeal an oni does. This kind of mix up is rather unprofessional. I imagine would've been less disapointed in not getting anything at all, because I wasn't expecting to. It merits a half yay?

After the first sentence I would have cried.
Anyway... either give them both [compensation for mix up] or leave it be would be my opinion on solving it.

Will it burst your bubble if I tell you that even the utmost "professionals" are not immune to errors? Or do you live in a world where mistakes simply don't happen by the people up top :]
I can understand the disappointment, but that one statement alone made me want to reply.

Well I'll take it off your hands if you're going to be so ungrateful about it....

I think Americans should not get anything from a free lottery. Euros should get stuff for free. Why? Remember the latest suck *** magazine offers?
But wanting 2 pets because they mixed up Oni and Naga, ummm... :>

Honestly, do you think the children on this forum would ever accept that?
They expect everything everyone else does to always be perfect.

Cry? No, not quite. Sigh? Yes. Multiple times. Both would be a bit much, but the option to choose would've been nice.

Professionals' errors are supposed to be harder to find. I just expected more from them, and I suppose I shouldn't, I don't know. I don't like the snide tone.

It's not that I'm ungrateful. I think you should be able to understand the situation a little better.

I'm thinking of a phrase......"Shit happens"
Here's another "To err is human"
Just be glad you got one at all and move on. That's my suggestion.

"You won a new car!"
"No, wait, sorry. You won a bike."
Again, it's not that I'm ungrateful, just a bit crushed and and disapointed.

Ok, so if I'm reading the initial letter correctly the key you actually received was the key for the naga, but you were told that you'd got an oni?
Professional errors happen all the time, you just don't hear about them. Times when one page of a report has the wrong numbers on it, etc. To be honest this isn't any different to a wrong number issue, and when someone notices it goes back and gets corrected. Professional errors of the type that get to the public - like ordering the wrong kind of material or too much/too little, incorrect failure analysis for a civil structure, yes THESE sorts of errors are harder to find, and ought to be.
What this strikes me as is turning up to a meeting with the wrong version of a document. It's embarassing, uncomfortable, and perhaps time wasting, but that's as far as it goes.
Yes, I understand that you are disappointed - but you have to understand that in an office full of paper work (and all offices are full of paper work by nature) such a mix up is very easy to make.

Well, no. There was no initial letter, except for the one granting the key, which contained a naga. The oni bit came from the GW website that detailed the winners and their prizes.

More or less the same difference, you were informed (by whatever means)you'd won an Oni, but the key was actually a naga.

Correct. It would've been fine if I hadn't had it switched, or had the actual winner data been put up.

Shadow, you received the right key, which is my point.
The paper work stuff up happened at the website end. You did not have a pet removed/returned. As I have already said, in offices paper work getting mixed up is a common occurrance. Perhaps more to the point, they were probably in a rush to get the results out, so the announcement would not have been double or triple checked. Nor is such checking necessary in cases such as simple website information - it isn't critical for the work to be checked by multiple people.
Think about it, if Anet (and offices in general) spent time and resources double and triple checking absolutely everything, time and money would be wasted and customers would complain that work isn't being done fast enough.
I understand the disappointment. But to say that "professionals" should know or do better is a clear sign to me that you don't appreciate the reality of the office environment.

What I read is they just screwed up winner data.
but you still keep your mini-pet.
Thus, there just apologizing that the SITE has in accurate data.
the keys still give you what they were supposed to give you.
So the problem is, the website told you, that you had an ONI.
The problem is you found a naga instead when you entered the key?
That be interesting.

This would apply if you had been given a Devourer minipet....but you weren't.
Either way you are winning a very rare minipet.
